Mark Dever, Author and Speaker

Mark DeverMark Dever serves as the senior pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, DC. A Duke graduate, Dr. Dever holds a M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, a Th.M. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Ecclesiastical History from Cambridge University. He is the president of 9Marks and has taught at a number of seminaries. Dr. Dever has also authored several books and articles. He and his wife Connie live and minister on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. See whole biography.

 

Ryan Townsend, Executive Director

Ryan TownsendRyan gives oversight to the organization. Born and raised in Houston, he grew up attending a Unitarian church. Ryan moved to Washington, DC in 1993 to attend Georgetown University. After graduation he converted to Christ through the ministry of Capitol Hill Baptist Church, where Ryan later served as a pastoral assistant to Mark Dever. In 2005, Ryan began his master of divinity studies at The Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville. During his time in Louisville, Ryan served as the pastor for administration & children at Clifton Baptist Church. Ryan now lives with his wife and four children in Washington, D.C.

 

Matt Schmucker, Vice President

Matt SchmuckerMatt served 9Marks as the executive director from 1998 through 2010. In his current role as vice president, he focuses on church and pastor consulting, conference planning, book editing, and speaking. He has served Capitol Hill Baptist Church since 1991—in administration and as an elder—aiding Mark Dever in the vital work of renewing a local church. Matt graduated from the University of Maryland with a double major in finance and marketing and lives with his wife and five children in Washington, DC.

 

Jonathan Leeman, Editorial Director

Jonathan Leeman Jonathan edits the 9Marks series of books as well as the 9Marks Journal. He is also the author of The Church and the Surprising Offense of God's Love and Reverberation: How God's Word Gives Light, Affection, Freedom and Action to His Church. Since his call to ministry, Jonathan has earned a master of divinity from Southern Seminary and has worked as an interim pastor. He is also working on his Ph.D. in ecclesiology. He lives with his wife and three daughters in Cheverly, Maryland.

 

Karen Race, General Manager

Karen Race Karen started her first job in college on October 31, 1995 (reformation day, naturally) at a seminary. Her life has now come full circle. After her latest stint as director of White House Personnel for President George W. Bush, she walked across Spain (literally), and the road ended right across the street from her house, at 9Marks. Karen has served as general manager since August 2009, overseeing the operations and many volunteers of 9Marks. She enjoys coffee, zumba, laughter and fine jewelry.

 

Bobby Jamieson, Assistant Editor and Website Manager

Bobby Jamieson Bobby writes new web and print material and helps edit the 9Marks Journal. After graduating from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies, Bobby was a pastoral intern at Capitol Hill Baptist Church. He is an MDiv student at Southern Seminary, and he lives with his wife and daughter in Louisville, Kentucky. He and his wife are members of Third Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville. 

 

Justin D. Leighty, Development Manager

Justin Leighty Justin helps 9Marks fund raise and strategically partner with local churches. Before joining 9Marks, Justin served as producer of The Albert Mohler Program, a nationally syndicated radio program. Prior to that he served President George W. Bush as Paralegal for Investigations in the White House Counsel's Office. Justin is currently enrolled at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and lives in Louisville, KY.

 

Timothy Gosselin, Administrative Manager

Tim Gosselin Tim helps with order fulfillment, event coordination, and constituent and beneficiary support. After graduating from Baptist Bible College, Tim worked as a teacher and coach. Most recently Tim served as a pastoral intern at Capitol Hill Baptist Church. He currently lives in Washington, D.C. and is pursuing a masters in biblical counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary.

 

Marcus Glover, Administrative Manager

Marcus Glover Marcus manages the production, distribution, and promotion of 9Marks Multimedia resources.This includes audio, video, translations, social media, and event promotion. He also provides administrative support for networks of churches and church leaders. Marcus graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Religious Studies, and he now lives in Washington, DC.
