9Marks Explained : A Letter From Mark Dever

Two great audios on Baptism

Print

A conversation this morning about infant baptism with a bloke who's recently started coming to our church led me to recommend two talks by Mark Dever.

They were given about 8 years ago, but since the debates have been pretty much the same for about 400 years, they are none the worse for that.

Should infants be baptised?

At what age should believers be baptised?

The first of these is a really good biblical summary of believer's baptism. It also makes good use of Mark's historical knowledge of the political pressures that were on the first generation of the Reformation to retain infant baptism.

The second is in some ways a less important question for the definition of the church, but is crucial for the health of the church. Should we baptise little Johnny because he has professed faith aged 4? Why not? What would result in the health of the church if we are going to do that?

I commend them both as a great resource for people thinking through these issues.
