As the title suggests, Randy Newman’s latest book hits close to the heart. Bringing the Gospel Home: Witnessing to Family Members Close Friends and Others Who Know You Well takes on that thorniest of issues in evangelism: sharing your faith with people who know you’re a sinner from firsthand experience.

A BOOK ON EVANGELISM THAT HITS CLOSE TO HOME

More on Christianity Explored

A few weeks back Marcus posted about the new Christianity Explored website.  I'm really excited about these new and updated resources.  They are faithful to Scripture, sensitive to the questions and doubts of unbelievers, and packaged well.

Evangelism as an Expression of Love to Christ

Last Sunday our church attended an evangelism seminar hosted by Pillar Church in Dumfries, VA.

The speaker was Randy Newman, whose book Questioning Evangelism is an excellent resource for helping people share Christ with their friends and neighbors.  The audio is available here and was really helpful.

Turning Conversations to Christ

In his Evangelism & The Sovereignty of God (page 81), J.I. Packer tells us of the evangelitic rule of H.C. Trumbull:

'Whenever I am justified in choosing my subject of conversation with another, the theme of themes (Christ) shall have prominence between us, so that I may learn of his need, and, if possible, meet it.'

It’s popular in reformed circles to be unhappy with most evangelism books.

While there are some remarkable exceptions, such as J. I. Packer’s Evangelism and the Sovereignty of Godand Mark Dever’s The Gospel and Personal Evangelism, this sentiment I’m afraid is validated by the method-centered approach of many, if not most, popular books on evangelism. Despite their concerns about pragmatism, however, pastors still read books on evangelism because their consciences are pricked by their own lack of evangelistic fervor.
