In Acts 20:28, Paul gives this farewell message to the Ephesian elders: “Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.” One way for pastors to pay careful attention to all the flock is to commit themselves to the practice of pastoral visits—that is, systematically ensuring that elders spend personal time with every member.
